Confident Scars: The Difficult Journey Of Conquering Cancer and Making Music

Obadiah Kariuki Irungu, the lyrical genius and versatile artist known as Confident Scars, rose to prominence in Kenya’s vibrant music scene in Thika in 2019. He captivated audiences across all platforms with his freestyle videos and unique blend of rapping, songwriting, and poetry.

Born on July 1, 2001, Confident Scars quickly gained attention through his excellent performance on various social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. His freestyle videos became a testament to his talent and established him as a solo artist.

To take his musical journey to the next level in 2020, Confident Scars formed his group called Areaplay Music. They collaborated with a Nigerian artist and showed off their teamwork. Her tracks have been discovered on platforms such as YouTube.

In 2021, Confident Scars faced an unexpected situation when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive disease Osteogenic Sarcoma (A type of bone cancer that begins in the cells that form bones). A seemingly small lump turned into a life-changing tumor.

Undeterred by the challenges, Confident Scars embarked on his coping journey and began his chemotherapy treatment in 2022. He then underwent major surgery to remove the tumour and showed incredible courage in the face of adversity.

Despite early success, 2023 brought news of tumour recurrence. Medical experts recommended a second surgery. Combining chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Confident Scars showcased his musical talent but also made him a great cancer advocate.

In response to his fight, the Confident Scars founded the Confident Scars Conquering Gun movement. Its mission is to raise awareness, inspire cancer patients and their families, and promote unity within the cancer community.

Despite health issues, Confident Scars are ready to return to their musical roots. He plans to release an album inspired by his battle with cancer that speaks of his strength, energy, and joy in his life.

Confident Scars’ journey from aspiring musical talents to cancer fighters and advocates is a story of unwavering determination, resilience, and motivation. As he continues to overcome the challenges of cancer treatment, his commitment to music and advocacy remains unwavering, leaving a lasting impression on those touched by his remarkable journey.
